Long ago, in May of 2023, Apprentices Lucinda, Calliope, and I began a journey that would change the world (or at least some of San Diego). Under the mentorship of Earyn McGhee from the Los Angeles Zoo, Gabriel Santos from Cosplay for Science, and EcoLogik Executive Director Sam Wynns, we toiled for many moons to craft the story of the Dungeons & Dragons BioBlitz.

The EcoLogik Institute has achieved the Platinum Seal of Transparency Rating on Candid (formerly Guidestar), the world’s largest source of information on non-profit organizations. This rating puts the Institute in the top 0.1% of charities nationally in terms of transparency.

This spring, the EcoLogik team welcomed 16 new youth apprentices, ages 13-18, to the Leadership Academy where they’ll practice the scientific method, contribute to real research, learn how to effectively communicate science, and give back to their national park and their communities beyond. Join the City Nature Challenge and compete with cities across the world to log the most biodiversity this weekend! To celebrate, Cabrillo National Monument is holding a 24 hr. BioBlitz, where you’ll get to join research teams and explore the park after hours.
