STEMs, Buds & Blooms is a recurring interview series based on learning about the women in STEM and their lives outside of it. These field notes aim to expand the idea of the woman in stem by spotlighting community & opportunity alongside achievements in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math, and give our readers broader space to imagine their future.

On Saturday, November 9th, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park, the EcoLogik Institute is excited to launch its workshop series in collaboration with BEWISE. The STEAM Studio workshop, made possible through funding from Forever Balboa Park, will focus on the art of storytelling through the dynamic medium of COMICS! Participants will delve into various conservation themes related to Balboa Park and receive a customized educational tutorial on comic creation from our esteemed partner, Little Fish Studio.

In September 2024, apprentice Claire W. and I got the opportunity and privilege to speak to the Environmental Educator Leaders Network (EELN) about the EcoLogik Institute. In this blog, I’m going to share my experience and what the EELN network is. While I taught the EELN network all about Ecologik, I also learned quite a bit about what a strong speech looks like.

Welcome to the EcoLogik STEAM Quest! This exciting bi-monthly program is designed to engage, inspire, and challenge participants to solve real-world problems using their skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM). Each challenge is an opportunity to innovate, collaborate, and showcase your creative solutions.

We are excited to partner with the Hixson Foundation in furthering STEAM and STEAM education in our community with practical, real world experience.

The STEAM Quests, created and designed by Kiana, was a project designed to keep the Ecologik Community engaged and connected. The first quest focused on recycled art, encouraging participants to explore STEAM concepts through the creative use of recycled materials. 

The EcoLogik Institute hosts two free summer camps annually for female and non-binary-identifying youth ages 10-15. During these camps, our campers and apprentices get hands-on experience and mentorship in a wide range of STEAM subjects ranging from Herpetology to Science Communication. Ecologik’s goal is to inspire, mentor, and train the next generation of scientists and conservationists.
