Youth Art Showcase a Success!

Written By: Nicole Revelo - EcoLogik Program Manager

November 3, 2024 from 3-6pm, EcoLogik Institute hosted the Youth Artist Showcase at Balboa Park in collaboration with Forever Balboa Park and Fleet Science Center.

This program was split into two segments. During the first segment, local youth artists showcased their art, in the media of their choice. With two of our EcoLogik Youth Apprentices as hosts, we were able to showcase 21 physical youth art pieces and two youth performances for the public to enjoy and engage. Our performances included pieces from The Nutcracker from the resident classical ballet school in Balboa Park, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, and pieces from Mozart and Brandenburg from the "Contemporary" Quartet of the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra. Approximately 175 members of the public engaged within this segment of the program.

Once the performances commenced, approximately 25 youth participants and professional artist mentors were invited into the Fleet Science Center to continue the conversation on how we can work to demonstrate youth art at Balboa Park for years to come. During this private working session, the youth brainstormed and completed four art proposals as groups with professional artists available as mentors. These proposals included creating a semi-permanent outside gallery for rotating youth art, forming a monthly showcase with both visual and performing youth art displayed, and more. These proposals will be submitted to Forever Balboa Park with our final report for EcoLogik Institute's Youth Initiative Grant.

Below are some photos from the event. We hope you enjoy! Thank you to everyone who made this event possible!
